If you were to ask me the first celebrity that pops into my head when I look at you guys, I would have to say that this is it.
Ross - Jay Farrar (guy from Sunvolt)
B - Michael Knight (not David Hasselhoff...Michael Knight-Ridin Knight)
Justin - Patrick Warburton
Dr. Gray - Jack Shepherd
Landon (old with braids) - Willie Nelson
Adam - Steven Wright (my favorite comedian)
Andrew - John Rhys-Davies (not always, but definitely this picture)
Seth - Matisyahu This was a tough one. Justin helped me out with it. Seth, there just isn't anyone else like you I don't think, so we had to make up something. Think about it, you'll get it.
Me - Kimbo I'm bald, scruffy, and black. I think it works.
BONUS
Mike - Daniel Plainview
Your thoughts are welcomed, your criticisms dismissed.
With Landon having a baby and me finally getting internet at our new house, I have postponed the recognition of Justin's birthday. He turned 27 years old earlier this week. That being said, my birthday present to him is opening up the blog to everything we love about Justin Lipscomb:
1. He has a dog with almost as much girth as he has 2. He drinks Miller High Life (incidentally took a sixer of that to a party recently, got made fun of) 3. Allowed me to start a radio show with him in college on WTTU 4. His father's name is Jasper 5. His biceps are bigger than the Rocks of Gibraltar
Landon asked Justin and he asked me (Katie, because he is working) to make a brief post just to let you all know that...Eva Grace Vick was born this morning. She was 5lbs. 13 oz. and 17.5 inches long. More details to come later!
About a year ago I set up Google Analytics to track all sorts of info on our blog. It looks at how people get to the blog, what town or country they live in and all sorts of other info. I now present to you some random findings from that info.
The Google search "magnolia tree david lee roth" has sent 225 visits to the blog. "ednahouse budget" sent 58. My favorite though is the the 3rd highest referred search. "Jennifer Foley watsons" has bounced 53 visitors our way and 98% of those were new visitors. Over the last month 14 people have come to the site after searching "andrew stacey memphis"has climbed to number #1. You students must be obsessed with you or the FBI is doing lots of internet background checks...
We have had 11,016 visitors from 48 countries in the past year. Including visitors from Iran, Ghana, Indonesia and 49 from the UK (thanks Ross and Andrew)
Today is moving day. In Memphis. In July. I've already sweat 2 quarts of perspiration.
Spent about 2 hours this weekend going back and reading all the posts/comments here on the Ednablog. It was time well spent.
Laura is 6 months along now. Every time she feels the baby move, I rush over to feel her kicking or punching. Nothing. This kid is already lying to me.
Bought a new TV over the weekend. Sony 46 inch LCD HDTV.
And now a personal message for everyone (vintage Ednablog move):
Aaron- Laura had a placental previa, but it went away so I won't be needing any medical advice.
Adam-See you in a few weeks. I'm a mess without you. I miss your scent.
Brandon- Congrats on your participation in the blog, however you are still not eligible for the Duke until you get your comment/post count way up.
Justin- How's the job hunt? Landscaping? Manscaping?
Landon- Father of 3 yet? Keep us posted.
Kevin-See you in a few weeks too. I have many jobs lined up for you: wireless internet, surround sound (the house is already wired).
Seth- Do your boys have armpit hair yet?
Ross- I'm ashamed this morning over our double forfeit last night.
How have we not talked about the greatness of Gary Busey?!?
I saw this today while watching Surviving the Game. The sound effects alone are worth the price of admission. Ice T asks Busey how he got that scar under his eye. His response is this:
Busey also states: "I'm going bare hands!" while fighting Ice T later in the movie, which is in the video "ICE-T vs THEM SICK MOTHER(LOVERS)" On this Sunday, let us thank the Lord for Gary Busey.
I don't know if any of you have heard about this, but there is a sub-culture of drivers called hypermilers who are going to lengths to get the best gas mileage out of there cars. I am thinking of trying to see how much I can get out of the old Jeep. She now has 211,000+ miles. I recently got my oil changed since it was a thousand miles or more over 3,000 miles since my last change. When I got my receipt I was kind of shocked when I realized how long it had been. I had gone 51 weeks since my last oil change and only driven 4,800 miles in my car since then. It helps when the hospital is only 1.5 miles from my house.
I bet Hoss could have gotten 8 mpg with these techniques.
I am going to pump up my tires and change my driving habits and see what kind of difference I can get...I will get back to you on the results. Just imagine how much $$$ you could save if you could have a 10% increase in miles per gallon. That would be a lot to contribute to buying Edna back.
Men, I haven't posted in a while either. While I have not quit my job yet I have some job news as well. First I will start with a trip to the Bahamas. It was awesome and we stayed on a 62 foot catamaran and it had a 88 foot sail (see picture at bottom). Snorkeling I saw a nurse or sand shark. Once we returned I saw the picture at the bottom and weighed 239.6 LB (I am fat). So Andrew, I decided to start the REVOLUTION once again. No cokes and a lot of exercise. Then when I got back I also found out that my transfer didn't go through to teach at Hawkins. Benny Bills rejected it himself. Also the principal at HHS is now at Hawkins. There is a chance that things still could work out but if they don't I will be looking for another job or a seminary to attend. Any ideas?
You guys remember me talking about that at WOM4. Phase 1 was scheduled for June and I'm happy to say...the truck is sold. Phase 2, get something else (paid for) and then get rid of the car. I know I'm learning this lesson a lot later than most of you guys, but I generally take a long time to learn stuff like that. Yep, it's time for old Kev to give up car notes and start actually saving some of the money he's been working for. I had a good run though. There was the Jetta (I really miss that one), then the Civic, and then the Frontier. Next up, something probably about like this:
And since I almost always only post random video clips, here is a little creepy Rammstein one for you...
Ok, its time. The post is here. I have a new job, and have had one for the past 3 weeks, and I enjoy it.
I'm working for Wynnecrest Landscaping, in the Mowing division. Basically, I do weed-eating and blowing (grass) a majority of the time, but I have run some of the mowers. We mow in Laurelbrooke (home to Mike Reinfeldt, General Manager to the Titans and a lot of other rich people) Carronbridge and the Enclave, all of which are Southern Land Company developments.
Some of these houses are SICKENING. There's one that is currently in the the middle of a $9 million ADDITION. I've been meaning to get some pictures but haven't yet. I will say that we cut Troy Gentry's grass, and he is a nice guy. I have encountered lots of ticks, but no Lyme disease or Rocky Mountain spotted fever (although if I had to go out, I'd pick RMSF. It would look good on a headstone) And I have never had this tan of a neck before. Check it out:
One fun thing about the job is that my mind wanders all day long. On Monday, I started singing: "We're the members of the All-American league, We come from cities near and far, We've got Canadians, Irish ones and Swedes, We're all for one, we're one for all, we're all Americans!" Yes, I was singing the women's theme song from A League of Their Own.
Sorry for the underwear, parental discretion is advised.
As far as the departure from Dell, I'll say it was long overdue. Much like Michael Keaton in "Mr. Mom" I felt really good about being unemployed. I have had a few interviews, but nothing has come of those yet. Andrew, send me the contact for the FBI. I mean, I could be Jack Bauer. I just took a personality test on 48Days.com and here's some of the recommended careers: Homemaker Flight attendant Theologian Performing artist Scholar Playwright Philosopher Apparently this test thinks I'm a genius or a woman. Go figure.
Here she is, the Odyssey. I never knew the hidden blessings of the minivan. This baby has leather, dual sliding doors, hide-a-way third row seat, and the speedometer reads 140. Malcolm likes it, I'm pretty sure that John likes it, and Kandice thinks I'm the greatest thing ever for getting it for her. It's a win all around. If anyone is thinking about having three kids but isn't sure about the minivan, be encouraged. I think you'll find it almost as good as making your third child.
By the way, if anyone has not experienced pandora.com please do so. Kevin, please let me know if there is any malicious spyware on this site.
More thoughts to come from me later but I wanted to get your initial reaction to the season finale last night. First of all, who still watches??? I had some major chills a few times during the show last night and I sure didn't know who Jeremy Benten (sp?) was...
What about Walt's post-puberty voice...pretty funny. I guess we should also make sure that we don't spoil anyones fun if they have it on DVR. So be forewarned...Spoiler Alert!!!
Sorry I have been off the blogosphere for so long. Things are well here in Middle America. Have to share this one with you if you haven't seen it. I just about spit my juice on my monitor when I saw this.
What did everyone do? We went to Georgia to see the in-laws. Monday was spent indoors due to the rain. This was one of the worst memorial days as far as the weather goes.
Now, a personalized message, in alphabetical order:
Aaron: Would injecting a virus into a brain tumor actually work? (hopefully you don't grow tired of us comparing Grey's Anatomy to real medical practice) Adam: I enjoyed talking to you yesterday. Hopefully Elizabeth didn't like the $230 shirt. Andrew: Our Facebook conversations are great. I'll see you and your liver in a few weeks. Brandon: Have you got a picture up on your Facebook page yet? Dates? Kevin: I have used Knoppix a dozen times in the last month. I plan on eating hacker food next time. Landon: We all want to see pictures of the van. Make it happen. Also, you're about to be a father of three. Quite Manly. Ross: I think I will master the barefoot ski this time. I'm just gonna jump out of the boat when it's at full speed and land on my feet. I can't see why this won't work. See you soon too. Seth: Did you show Kevin your wood pile during his visit? How many tons of wood do you have? (that's what she said)
Organ removal seems to be the soup du jour here on the blog.
They found a cancerous tumor in my dad's kidney this week. He'll be having the tumor and his kidney removed next Thursday. The prognosis is pretty good and they think the cancer is contained within the kidney and he won't have to do chemo or radiation.
Laura and I will be heading up that way on Wednesday afternoon. If anyone wants to come hang out Thursday or Friday at Baptist Hospital downtown, maybe we can hang out.
Men, On Thursday night I woke up with what I thought was the most insaine gas pain ever. I laid in the bed for two hours before Jennifer convinced me the emergency room was a good idea. I found out at the hospital that I needed my appendix removed. I am proud to say that I am now a man without an appendix. Aaron, have you performed one of these? I am still in pain, but I am feeling much better than Thursday night. Also, my surgeon was the coolest guy ever. He told Jennifer after my surgery that "Seth had some calcified fecal matter on his appendix and this pissed the appendix off." Aaron, what is calcified fecal matter?
(This was taken out back of C.S. Lewis' house. I think the tree came from Narnia. It was pretty gnarly. Click on the picture to get a close up of the gnarly-ness.)
Landon, will I see you this weekend? You need a picture of Malcolm riding a miniature donkey. I'm thinking about entering the buck dancing contest again. Ross, I need you there.
I think it is a tribute to the changing dynamics of the Edna Blog that our ads at the bottom of the page are now for cute baby contests. Andrew, here is a picture of what you have to look forward to if you have a boy. If you have a girl, I have no clue, I am unable to produce anything but boys. This is a picture of Jacob litting me know that I better not get him out of the bath because he can hurt me (he knows I will always be able to kick his butt, but it was a valiant effort).
With Seth now a father of 2 and Landon expecting his 3rd, I've decided to get in the game. I realize I have a lot of catching up to do, but Laura and I will be welcoming a little one sometime around November 1st. I knew we were pregnant at Man's Weekend, but I was forced to secrecy until we told our parents.
Diaper Changing will now be an event for next year's Manlympics.
As I meditated on Man's Weekend IV, it occured to me that my sister lives close to Hollywood, Florida, home to Billy Mitchell. It turns out that she commutes to Hollywood everyday for her work. I immediately interrogated her as her knowledge of Billy Mitchell. She had not seen The King of Kong, but when I mentioned that he owned a restaurant, bells started ringing. The next day she was kind enough to take some live shots of the very Billy Mitchell enterprise, Rickey's. I told her that if she went inside and got a picture with Billy that I'd give her $100 dollars, she's a social worker, so that's a ton of money to her. She went in, but he wasn't there. She did not indicate if there was a Donkey Kong machine inside.
I just wanted to let you guys know that Andrew Christopher Jones was born on March 11 2008 at 6:33 am. He weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces and was 20 inches long. Here are some pictures of his first few days out of the womb.
This is Andrew's first look at Mom.
Jacob is very excited to hug his little brother!
I am trying to think of ways to make him more manly even before he can hold his head up. Please give ideas.
Back-to-back posts...I know, but we watched this movie last night and it was awesome. Great acting, great characters, go rent it if you haven't seen it.
Men , I thought you and among others would like to see the shirt(Seth this is especially for you). I think it is awesome. Landon and Andrew it is a good blend. Also Justin, I just found out that the boat should be working so if we want to then we can use that in the games. I love you all and I can't wait to see you. Don't forget the shirts are 12 dollars.
Here is what we're looking at for the weekend as far as weather goes. My only concern is that the area where we had our firearms activities last year is going to basically be a swamp this year. Even without the chance of rain on Friday, the ground is probably soaked from earlier this week's snow/rain and lack of warm air to dry it out. But, in case it isn't, someone needs to bring something to shoot at. We're driving up in Nunley's Corolla, so I don't think we'll have room to carry a good size backstop for a target. It probably needs to be a sheet of plywood and a couple 2x4's if someone could swing that.
P.S. I hope you like the bbq we had last year, because that's what you're getting this year for Saturday dinner.
Here are the games, I have some tweaking to do, but this should give you a place to start practice. When I say "practice" I mean take off work all next week.
- Mystery (This will be a surprise, and will happen first thing Saturday morning)
- Atlas Throw (Boulder toss, measurement taken from the distance thrown thru the air, roll DOES NOT count)
- Football Punt (Total distance through the air AND on the ground, Roll DOES count in this event)
- Clay Target shooting (5 shots and 5 clay targets)
- Paper Target accuracy (Target points are added up after 6 shots from a distance of 10 paces)
- Guitar Hero 3 (Pick a level, pick a song, points from the game determine placement. Key takeaway, if you fail the song, you will be awarded no points. there will be time to practice if you need it)
- Relay race (Similar to the 1st weekend of men, events will be revealed Saturday)
- Written test (A random sampling of Manly trivia and knowledge)
- Bocce/horseshoes tournament - (Placing from the tournament determines points. We can do both horseshoes and Bocce, or just one. Place your vote in the comments)
What we will need: Brandon England, Horseshoes, Bocce balls, a football, Guns, Ammo, Clay and paper targets. I will supply everything else.
If you have any suggestions for other games, you should win and do it differently next year. As John Locke said on Thursday's Lost, "This isn't a democracy, it's a dictatorship." OK, not really, but I wanted to use that line.
Obviously The Duke is up for grabs, but I have prizes for 2nd & 3rd place this year. They don't kick as much ass as the Duke, but they are pretty funny.
I just received an e-mail informing me that my Millionaire show will air Tuesday, February 26 (a week from tomorrow). This is like 2 months earlier than we expected, but it also means that if I won any money, we'l be getting that earlier than expected as well, so that's pretty nice. I don't have TiVo or DVR so if someone could get me a recording of it or put it on YouTube, I would be grateful.
Last night, on my computer at home I got the Blue Screen of Death and my computer shut down. It restarted but I am unable to access the internet now. Norton keeps giving me this message:
Malicious Script Detected High Risk Your Computer is halted and needs to do something about this script. Object--FileSystem Object Activity--Get Folder File--sprtsvc.exe and sprtcmd.exe
Any ideas or should I call Nerd Herd at the Buy More? Am I on the verge of a crash? Do I have a trojan horse/virus? I ran my antivirus and it didn't find anything. Help.
How are you Memphis guys doing after the big storm. I always miss the big storms down there. The weather channel people were making it sound out to be pretty nasty. Hope you all are well. Sorry about your favorite mall, Ross :(
What about Jackson...that place is a tornado magnet. Nunley - never follow your bride back to that town to establish residence!
Missouri is quiet tonight. Just looking forward to a couple more inches of snow tomorrow. It snows all the time up here compared to the Volunteer State.
OK! I got the dates and Febuary 29 through March 2nd has been given the green light. He also said that if we needed to change again we could. So place it on your calanders and Seth find away.
Second order of business: T-Shirts. What design do you guys want? I could get a regular for cheap but I am not sure about a picture. I think a pocket-t with small Label on the pocket and then on the back a large picture or quote or Name for this Man's Weekend ( like Sethless, but I hope that is not the case Seth or the Quest for the Golden Duke).
It was an innocent question, "Kandice, what do you think the record for most non stop pushups is?" I guessed a 1,000. Kandice said, " Yeah you know there's some freak out there that can do that." Seeking an answer I realized that some freak had done 10,507 push ups non stop. I also found a new role model, Paddy Doyle. In the spirit of man's weekend please take note of the following fitness challenges Mr. Doyle completed in 18 hours 56 minutes and 9 seconds:
Doyle attempted and completed: A two mile swim Weightlifting 300,000 pounds in a single session A 12-mile run A 12-mile walk An 110-mile bike 1,250 press ups (push ups) 3,250 sit-ups and crunches 1,250 star-jumps 20 miles rowing 1,250 standing hip flexors 20 mile cross trainer
He also completed a total of 1.5 million pushups over the course of a year and 660 pushups in one hour, not bad. I'm expecting big things Justin.
You know how I know it's decision time? Because it's Wednesday. See what I did there?
President's Day Weekend--Aaron can't go
Feb 29-Mar 2--Seth can't go (unless he tells Jennifer to suck it up and read the previous post by Ross concerning God's decretive will and His desire for all to be at Man's Weekend
Men, It is a go! The Eagle has landed. I just got the call about Man's Weekend and it was cleared for President's Day weekend. Kevin not the actual President's day, but February 15-17. I am going to check with a t-shirt designer I know and see if I can't get a t-shirt printed. What were the ideas? And how much do you guys think would be a good price? Man's Weekend Lives!
Man's Weekend.....when is this happening? I need a date so I can have the games ready to go.
Also, This should be the new Tech Mascot. I think its David Collett in a Eagle suit. I guess the NFL isn't as impressed with his guns as we were.
Finally, As EDNA house league champion, I must say it was a fun league. I do wish Brandon had time for us and Kevin understood football. An 8 man league would be more fun.
