Cummins Falls

Look at this story here. Never would have expected to see the falls, but pretty cool that it is on the list.

Who ended up buying this land?

This is amazing. Who would have thought that we took for granted swimming in one of the top natural swimming holes in the country with the likes of Ronnie Sidler. I wish they had let me know about the story, I would have sent them a picture of someone rappelling down the falls. That would have made the story much more interesting, and would have set our place apart from the rest.

Do you have any pictures of those trips? I'd love to see them.

I tried to go up and down using the side trail once, and almost fell off the ledge and got the worst poison ivy I have ever seen on my stomach. I still remember pouring bleach on that. Good idea, Colby Tippens.

I only went there one time. Why did you guys let me be such a loser?

There's probably a youtube video of Colby pouring bleach on an Arab at Guantanamo. He was just perfecting his techniques. Way to be a good sport. Real American hero.

The place sold for over a million:

The guy that bought it is Mike Hall and maybe some others. Not sure what they are going to do with it. Maybe they could finally bring a decent golf course to the cookeville area, Cummins Links, The Links at Cummins Mill, The Cummins Mill Family Fun Time Golf Course, Cummins Bay, The Woodlands and Cummins Mill, the possibilities are endless.

The TN Parks and Greenways Foundation is working on getting it right now from the guy that bought it.

Why does that site say that now the falls are at risk? Because they are privately owned?

It was privately owned before so that probably isn't why it was at risk. More likely it was considered at risk when it was put up for auction. The chances of a bad developer getting it at auction is high.

But at risk of what? Drying up? It's a waterfall. A developer wouldn't get rid of it. It looks too good next to very large houses. But...people aren't going to want to live on the edge of that cliff that's right behind it. And I doubt there is any good resource in the area other than maybe the water itself. I don't know what you would want to build there.

If people are upset for it being in private hands they should have had some reps do something so the state/county could have bid on it. Little late now to save anything. Would have made a good state park area.

The most immediate issue is access. If someone develops it with big houses those owners won't allow a bunch of college students going through the backyard.

Drying up could be an issue. Fall Creek Falls used to be much bigger. Water quality is definitely an issue for a swimming hole. If you really want to learn how development can impact watersheds check this out http://www.cwp.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=88&Itemid=73

B,
Your england trip requires a post. I looked at pictures on Facebook last night and you went to the home of golf. You lucky dog.

Post it up. Like Rusty Strange.

B, I'm just trolling you. And you are falling for it.

I did get trolled and I'm glad you put the link or I wouldn't have known what that meant.

Some part of the trip does need a post but the Blog belongs to another important day tomorrow. In the meantime, go to http://www.badassoftheweek.com/shelford.html and read about a bad ass rugby player. He could have been a headhunter.

It was great watching the open this weekend after being there a month ago.
