This Place is Dead Anyway.

I see that the blog is suffering from Post-Man's Weekend Doldrums, so to get the conversation going, I'll throw out a topic.

Saw in the news that Danica McKellar (aka: Gwendolyn "Winnie" Cooper) got married over the weekend. I'll say it, growing up I had a thing for Winnie. There it is. It's out there and I can't very well take it back. She just seemed like the perfect girl. She was cute, fun, easy-going, didn't get too uptight when Kevin flirted with other girls. What more could a guy want? Can somebody back me up on this?

Topic: Growing up, who did you have a thing for on television and why? Wives, you can get in on this one too.

I had a thing for Winnie also - probably most of the guys our age did. She was a bit of a wet blanket, though. Seems like she always had some sort of trouble at home that she was complaining about.

Kelly Kapowski is the obvious choice here. You just can't get better than her...athletic, fun, cheery..ultimate girl next door. I'm not ashamed to put this out there, though - the ultimate woman of all-time: Claire Huxtable. No one else is even close.

Trouble at home=Brother died in the Vietnam War? Yeah, grow up Cooper.

Mike, you are dead to me.

And then you totally redeemed yourself with the Claire Huxtable reference. A no-nonsense gal but still could hang with Cosby.

We had this same conversation at our lunch table the other day. One of my colleagues who is about 10 years older than all of us answered, Mary Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie. We all just stared at him

Since all I watched was Saved by the Bell, I have to agree with Mike on this. Kelly was the perfect all-american girl. She won the 4th of July pageant at the Malibu Sands Beach Club for crying out loud.

To dive a little deeper, she was way ahead of Lisa Turtle or Jessie Spano.

Lisa came from money. They tried to show that she had a thing for poor boys when Eric came on the show for an episode, but it didn't stick. So, life with her would be all about trying to provide for her. And she was an only child.

Jessie was an environmentalist, and well, who wants that.

Kelly came from a working class family, and a larger family at that (one of 7). That leads me to think that life with her would end up being a lot easier, because she would be happy with less.

Third vote for Kelly, but let us not forget Melody from Hey Dude.

B, you must provide support for your pick. You only get half credit.

So Cooper died in Vietnam...minor detail. The real hot girl on that show was one in Kevin's French class - he kept asking her if she wanted some butter because it's the only French phrase he knew. Just look at her: http://public-files.pcloadletterwtf.com/Recon/Babes/JulieCondra.gif

Jessie was a drama queen, Lisa was, well, I ain't sayin' she's a golddigger, but she ain't...you get the idea.

Melody from Hey Dude is a great call, especially since she's still hot.

Just found this...there's some language, so it's partially NSFW, but it's a list of girls Kevin could have been with over Winnie:

Sgt. Dee Dee McCall (Hunter):
She was no nonsense, clean, and good at her job. She also had biggish hair.

Winnie Cooper (Wonder Years):
She was the girl next door. Sure she whined sometimes, but if there was ever anyone you had a chance to learn to kiss with...it was the girl next door.

Sonja (Heathcliff):
Yes, she is a cartoon, but the leg warmers made her as good as human to me.

Regina Radford (Witching of Ben Wagner):
This is an obscure one. She was in a movie that came on Disney Channel called "Witching of Ben Wagner". Whenever it came on, you'd better believe I watched it. She had a beauty mark and a side ponytail I couldn't resist. She also wore some neon colors if I remember correctly.

Sam (Who's the Boss?):
I don't think I need to explain this one.

Evie (Out of This World):
She was a blonde and she could stop time. She also had a Rubix cube thing that lit up and she talked to her dad on it.

Mary Ingalls (Little House on the Prarie):
I liked Mary because, next to Laura, she acted grown up. I also liked her hair, and the way she looked around like she was blind...wait.

Helen (Wings):
This one is from a little later in life, but I liked Helen because she sounded country and I thought her face was pretty. Also, she married Tony Shalhoub to keep him from getting deported once. That's a loving woman.

Sarah (Chuck):
So sue me.

All good calls on here, but does no one remember Topanga from Boy Meets World? At first she was a little weird, but you were drawn to the mystery. Then after a few seasons she turned out normal, and proved she had a mind of her own by getting married while still in college. Maybe I am the only one that repects that since I am the only one that married in college (Landon and Aaron, grad school does not count).

So Andrew said that the girls could get in on this one, and after some coaxing I can reveal that my TV crush was Sully from Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.

Reason: Rugged outdoorsman and friend to the Cheyenne.

Laugh if you must.

I knew Topanga would be mentioned.
Pass.

I knew Tapanga would end up as a weeble.

I thought the boy in "Flight of the Navigator" was cute! He got to fly that really cool space ship looking thing.

B, allow me to expand on your vote for Melody Hanson of "Hey Dude". Not only was she a talented lifeguard and dance instructor, she knew how to live on the plains and in a bunk house.

The girl could save you in a moving river, teach you the rhamba, and knew how to live life the tough way. Who wouldn't want that.

Finally, in honor of Matthew Cannada I'll vote for Stephanie Tanner or any of the other female cast of Full House.

Is that pre-crystal meth Stephanie Tanner or post-crystal meth Stephanie Tanner.

You can't be too sure with Canada.

How could I have failed to mention Aunt Becky?

Have Mercy!

1. Kelly Kapowski
2. Melody - Hey Dude
3. Topanga

...Steak just sent me the blog.

Correct you are, Ross Dennehy - son of Brian Dennehy - Stephanie Tanner and I are the same age, and I felt as though I grew up with her. When girls struck me out in little league, I knew that my love for her had to be true.

As far as Aunt Becky is concerned - I have never had a bigger crush on an actor in my life. She was, is, and always will be all woman. Any woman that can tame Jessie Katsopolis is more than enough woman in my book.

If I am going after a woman a little less robust, then I obviously hop on the Clair Huxtable train. She was no nonsense but always witty. She could work 80 hours a week, cook hot meals, all while raising 5 children, a grandchild, and a somewhat troublesome niece - 'oh Lance'. Yes, my friends, Clair Huxtable is built for the long haul

Kelly Kapowski is an easy win here the look she gave during the "what I should have said theatre" melted my heart.

Older woman was Claire Huxtable hands down. Beauty, brains, and devoted to her husband. She is the woman trifecta.
