We interrupt the Ray Boltz Is Gay post to announce that Hurricane Evie has quickly gained strength and is bearing down on the Gulf Coast.
The levy has broken....I repeat....The levy has broken.
We have evacuated to the hospital.
Update #1: My cell phone is dead. If you want to call, use Laura's cell number (if you have it.) If not, comment here. I love wireless internet.
Update #2: (10:05 a.m.) The doctor just gave Laura some Pitocin to speed the process up. We also just called into the Rick and Bubba show so they could predict what we're having. They said "Boy". We might be in trouble. Or Evie might be really good at softball.
Update #3: (12:44 p.m.) Laura is 3 cm, 80% effaced, and Evie is -1 (whatever that means, Aaron?) Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Keep 'em coming.
Update #4: (1:20 p.m.) Epidural is on the way...show me that needle!
Update #5: (3:44 p.m.) Waiting for a baby to be born in BORING. Laura is sleeping. They've upped the Pitocin. I'm listening to Pandora Radio. Andy McKee is my hero.
Update #6: (6:31 p.m.) 5 cm dilated. 100% bored.
Update #7: (8:02 p.m.) Well, it looks like we are doing this Julius Caesar style. Be in prayer for Laura and Evie as they enter surgery. Be in prayer for me that I don't pass out.
Update #8: (11:24 p.m.) Welcome Evie Jane! 6 lbs 14 oz-- 19 1/4 inches long. Born @ 8:40 p.m. on 10/20/08 via C-section. Mom and Baby are doing well.

Awesome! We can't wait till she gets here. In the meantime, just do what Laura says.
PUSH PUSH and SCREAM. I watched Big Mama's house last night and they used crisco to help a baby get out. Just a thought. I will call soon.
UNtil THen,
Sounds like Evie wanted to do things on her own time. I am sure this won't be the last time she does that.
If you cut the cord you should twirl the scissors around like a pistol from the wild west along with cool sound effects.
Thanks for the update
Pitocin...right on, doc.
I will start the prediction game of what time she will be born...
I will say 2:45 pm
I'll take the over on that prediction.
Andrew, if Laura gets an epidural take a long gaze at that needle. It is the most amazing thing you have seen. Good luck, tell Laura to try to catch a nap if she feels like it (you too). Take lots of pictures (before and after, not during). Tell Laura that Jennifer opted to use the mirror during her first delivery and regreted it, (if you have no idea what I am talking about good for you). Way to go man!!!!
throw some sawdust on the floor for traction, then point at the doc and tell him "you're welcome"
My wife just dog-cussed me. It was awesome!
Can we get an update with the transcript from the dog cuss?
Good luck today, we're praying for your little boy (Rick and Bubba are never wrong, thank you very much)
Awesome Andrew.
I second JD's motion for a description of the dog-cuss.
And make sure if you are video taping the birth not to put a live feed of it in the hospital like they did on Scrubs.
If "Andrew, please don't touch me" is what my husband means by being "dog-cussed" then yes, I just dog-cussed Andrew.
It wasn't what you said, but it was how you said that made me interpret you that way.
I'm going out to the car for my daily nap. Don't push while I'm gone.
Andrew, your lives are about to change forever in a single moment. I have chills thinking about the first cry that Malcolm let out. Don't be afraid to be emotional, it's great, when Eva was born I was a little baby.
I echo everything that has been said:
Epidural needles are amazing
Crisco might not be a bad idea
Do whatever Laura says
I wish I had thought about bringing sawdust to put on the floor.
Congratulations!!!!!
Could you also do a centimeter update?
1:51 51 is the greatest number of all time.
these guesses are obviously placed by men who have never had children. (no offense Adam) The important thing is, does Laura have an epidural yet? If not, the typing alone is probably driving her crazy.
Thanks for permission to comment here. As I type, my sweet little bundle of joy is crying his head off in hopes of avoiding his nap...something to look forward to. :)
5:00 on the dot. she's a fan of Dolly Parton's acting career.
"Workin 9 to 5, what a way to make a living!"
I misspelled something, tomorrow has 2 r's
Tomorrow 8:37 pm
First, I'm going to guess 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon with Evie and Laura making it into the records books as the longest birth ever.
And second, I just checked the Red River blog and noticed that two ladies wouldn't post on the Mother Blog due to either being told not to or pure fear. I don't know whether to feel bad about shunning our female friends or patting the backs of their respective husbands and telling them good job.
I predict it will be 4:37 when Evie Jane makes her debut. We are very excited for the both of you and can't wait to meet her!
On another note...I ain't scared to comment on this blog!!!!
Carmen
Really the time is not important just as long as it has a 51 in the time.
-1 is called the station. when you get to +2 or +3 and completely dilated then it is time to push. i think -1 means that he head is a centimeter above part of the outlet of the pelvis.
but that is all more than you probably needed to know.
Carmen,
Great to see your comments. I hope you're doing well.
Kev,
You might want to have a talk with Carmen later.
I put a note on your pandora station andrew, click on "your profile"
i've tried ross, she acts like she owns the internets
You may be bored now, but its the calm before the storm. Consider your life unboring from now on.
Andrew,
I think we all need hourly updates inbetween you feeding Laura ice chips. We would prefer every 20 minutes, but we understand you kinda have some stuff going on.
Also, now is the perfect time for us to do Edna LLC. Think of Evie's future and the future tuition payments to Harvard School of Business and Yale Law School.
Andrew, kongregate.com. Lots of good games there.
Justin is right about the calm before the storm. In a couple days, you'll be wishing you were bored. You'll also be waking up every hour or so at night. I say "waking up", but I doubt you'll hit REM sleep again for a couple months.
Ooo, Big Bang Theory is coming on!
Will do.
6 lbs 14 oz's
Congrats Andy Rooney!
congrats andrew and laura... i can't wait to come visit and see her sleep straight on the mattress like her father
Congratulations to you both! We can't wait to see pictures of little Evie.
You're the man, Andrew, and now you have two great ladies, you are blessed.
You've come a long way from a few years back when asked about having kids your response was that you were "double baggin it."
Congrats, now show us pictures.
Great Job Laura! Andrew, i am sure your posts will become far less frequent now that the hurricaine has arrived. I can not wait to see pictures of her so I can drop the classic male line of "Good thing she looks like her mother"
